IT Enhancement in Underdeveloped Areas
Coinciding with Indonesia's Heroes Day on November 10, 2008, Danamon Peduli collaborated with The Ministry of Research and Technology, Indonesian Open Source Association (AOSI) and PT. Telkom Indonesia (TELKOM) enhanced IT capabilities in five junior high schools in Kepulauan Seribu Regency, DKI Jakarta. This program aimed at bridging the digital gap between students in Kepulauan Seribu and the students in other areas. A synergistic collaboration between government, private companies, State Owned Companies (BUMN), and community is essential in improving capabilities of underprivileged schools to access information equivalent to more developed schools across the country.
In this event, Danamon Peduli donated 200 IBM computers Pentium 3 ex Danamon in decent condition, the State Ministry of Research and Technology provided free installation of 'Open Source' software, AOSI provided operational training of the software for teachers, and TELKOM, for the first time, opened VSAT internet access in Kepulauan Seribu.
For the same objective, in December 2008, Danamon Peduli also donated 30 computers for High schools in Klungkung, Bali.
